Ambassador of Tajikistan to Egypt Parviz Mirzazada said Egypt was the first country to officially recognize Tajikistan's independence on 1 January 1992, describing the historic step as the cornerstone of the longstanding friendship and growing ties between the two countries.
The Ambassador said in his remarks during the reception hosted by the Embassy in Cairo on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, which falls on September 9, 1991, that the two countries share deep commonalities represented in ancient history, rich culture and convergent positions on regional and international issues, affirming that Egypt occupies an important place in Tajikistan's foreign policy as a pivotal state in the Middle East and Africa. The ceremony was attended by a number of ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Egyptian institutions, scholars and university professors, prominent experts and politicians, senior journalists and representatives of Egyptian media.

The Ambassador confirmed that diplomatic relations between the two countries were officially established on April 1, 1993, and that the official visits of President Emomali Rahmon to Egypt in February 2007 and March 2022, as well as his participation in the COP27 climate conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, played an important role in developing bilateral relations.
He referred to the visit of the Tajik President to Cairo University in March 2022 and his address to faculty and students, where the Scientific and Educational Council of the University awarded him an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contributions to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and expanding scientific, humanitarian and cultural ties, especially global initiatives in the field of water and climate.
He explained that there is great potential for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the sectors of pharmaceutical industry, energy, construction, tourism, museums, scientific research and education, noting that the two countries have similar positions and continuously support each other in international forums.
The Ambassador called on Egyptian businessmen and investors to benefit from the opportunities available in Tajikistan, which has five free economic zones, huge water and energy resources, rich underground resources of minerals and precious stones, beautiful nature and a suitable climate for cultivating high-quality vegetables and fruits, in addition to a stable and safe environment for investment. He affirmed that Tajikistan and Egypt can cooperate in implementing projects in the fields of light industries, food, pharmaceuticals, minerals, chemicals and production of building materials through the introduction of modern technologies and full processing of local raw materials.

He pointed out that the Embassy of Tajikistan in Cairo carries out intensive diplomatic and cultural activity and maintains constant communication with scholars, journalists, universities and scientific and research centers in an effort to introduce Tajikistan to Egypt and bring the two peoples closer.
In this context, he revealed that the Embassy, in cooperation, published Tajikistan magazine in Arabic for the first time in Egypt in 2025, and also published in cooperation with the Dialogue Center for Political and Media Studies two magazines titled Tajikistan and Glaciers and Tajikistan and the Fourth International Water Conference in 2026. Also, in 2026, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of independence, two books in Arabic were published in Egypt titled Tajikistan, Cradle of History and Civilization and the book Beyond the River: Myths, Lines and World Heritage in Tajikistan.
Mirzazada explained that since declaring its independence, Tajikistan has proceeded as an independent state pursuing its own policy, respecting universal human values and protecting its national interests, and has transformed in a short historical period into a developing, progressive and active state in the region and the world, thanks to the wise policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and with the support of the people and the international community.
He added that the world has witnessed in recent decades growing interest in issues of international cooperation and sustainable development as two pillars for achieving security and stability, and Tajikistan has emerged as an active state in international forums with a vision based on enhancing partnership and contributing to addressing regional and global issues, especially water, energy and climate change issues.
He pointed out that Tajikistan has made water diplomacy a major axis in its foreign policy and has put forward many international initiatives that have received the support of the United Nations, until it has become known globally as a leading state in this field. So far, eight international initiatives of Tajikistan have been adopted under special resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, the latest of which was on June 25, 2026.
