The Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo celebrated 500 years of the Mughal Era and Pakistan's culinary legacy in a cultural event attended by ambassadors, Egyptian dignitaries and media representatives.
The event commemorated five centuries since the founding of the Mughal Empire in South Asia and its enduring influence on architecture, art, culture and cuisine.
In his address, the Ambassador of Pakistan Aamer Shouket highlighted the profound impact of the Mughal Empire on South Asian history and its lasting imprint on Pakistan's cultural identity, beginning in 1526 with Babur's victory at the First Battle of Panipat, which ushered in an era of remarkable achievements in governance, architecture, arts and cultural exchange.
The Ambassador underscored Lahore's magnificent Mughal heritage, particularly the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, and Shalimar Gardens, noting that they exemplify the synthesis of Persian, Central Asian and local traditions. He also highlighted Urdu language, poetry, music, calligraphy and miniature painting as expressions of this shared heritage.

A central feature of the celebration was the Mughal culinary legacy, including biryani, qorma, kebabs and shahi tukray. The Ambassador noted that these culinary traditions evolved through local ingredients, regional tastes and generations of creativity, emphasizing that food in Pakistan represents hospitality, family and friendship — values that resonate deeply with Egypt's generous traditions of welcoming guests.
Reflecting on Pakistan-Egypt relations, the Ambassador observed that both countries are heirs to great civilizations whose monuments embody memory, creativity and enduring human aspirations.
The event reaffirmed the importance of cultural dialogue and celebrated the Mughal legacy as a living heritage connecting peoples through history, art and cuisine.
