Moscow on the Africa Track: Media Forum Paves Way for Russia-Africa Summit
Amr Yehia, from Moscow

Within a few days, Moscow will transform into a center of gravity for international diplomacy, hosting the Third Russia-Africa Summit in parallel with two high-level platforms: one shaping the media scene, and the other drawing a roadmap for economy, technology and humanitarian work. These intensive events come to affirm the desire to forge a long-term strategic partnership and develop political and economic relations between Russia and Africa.
Moscow's African agenda this year will witness the convening of the Media Forum: A United Front to Confront Challenges of the Profession, where the media sector will open the scene on October 26-27, 2026, at the National Center "Russia" in Moscow. The "Russia - Africa" Media Forum, organized by RT network in cooperation with Sputnik and TASS agencies, will bring together an elite of decision-makers and experts from Russian and African media institutions.
Discussions will focus on how to confront the major challenges surrounding the media industry today, and exchange professional expertise in panel discussions. The forum's corridors are expected to witness the signing of a series of memoranda of understanding to establish a solid and sustainable media partnership.
Coinciding with the launch of the third summit on October 28-29, 2026, the historic "Gostiny Dvor" center will open its doors to host the Economic and Humanitarian Forum. With more than 30 discussion sessions, dialogue will be distributed across 4 main axes that touch the lives of Russian and African citizens:
- Sovereignty and sustainable development: How do states protect their independence and ensure their growth?
- Economy and trade exchange: The language of numbers, projects and joint investments.
- Social partnership and human capital: Investing in people first.
- Technology and innovation: Digital and scientific solutions for a better quality of life.
The upcoming summit gains its importance from being the third station in a path that started in Sochi in 2019, then moved to St. Petersburg in 2023. During the second summit, it was agreed to hold summits once every three years, making the meeting an opportunity to review what has been achieved and determine the next steps in Russian-African relations.
The volume of agreements and initiatives that the summit will produce remains linked to what will be presented during its proceedings, in addition to drawing the features of cooperation between Russia and Africa in the coming phase.
Trade and economic relations between Russia and African countries are witnessing increasing momentum, supported by a joint will to build a partnership that goes beyond traditional figures. The volume of trade exchange between the two sides exceeded $27 billion in 2025, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who confirmed that trade is growing at a rapid pace with room for further growth.
