Slovenia's principled positions on Palestine are a model of European conscience.. and Slovenia is an important partner for the Arab League: arab league Cheif Fahmy

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy expressed his deep appreciation for Slovenia's role and its principled and courageous positions in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, praising the positions of the President of the Republic calling for the protection of civilians and respect for international law without double standards, and rejecting settlement expansion which undermines chances of achieving peace.

This came during his meeting today with Ms. Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, and her accompanying delegation, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, where the two sides discussed developments in the region, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, and ways to enhance relations between the League of Arab States and Slovenia.

The meeting also addressed regional and international developments of common interest.

The Secretary-General affirmed his appreciation for the principled positions of the President of Slovenia in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, endorsing the embodiment of its independent state and the two-state solution, and rejecting its displacement from its land.

The meeting addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, where the Secretary-General stressed the need to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid in a sufficient, sustainable and unhindered manner, and to reject the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land.

Fahmy also stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to end the illegal Israeli occupation and implement the two-state solution and embody an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, warning that continued settlement expansion, annexation schemes and unilateral Israeli measures undermine chances of achieving peace.

The talks also touched on overall regional developments, where the Secretary-General emphasized the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, respecting the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of states, and avoiding further escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.

During the meeting, ways to continue dialogue and consultation between the League and Slovenia on issues of common interest were also discussed, as well as strengthening Arab-European cooperation in the service of peace and stability.
